Foreign Exchange: A Practical Guide to the FX Markets (Wiley Finance)

Foreign Exchange: A Practical Guide to the FX Markets (Wiley Finance)

Praise for Foreign Exchange

“Tim Weithers starts by telling the reader that foreign exchange is not difficult, just confusing, but Foreign Exchange: A Practical Guide to the FX Markets proves that money is much more exciting than anything it buys. This useful book is a whirlwind tour of the world’s largest market, and the tour guide is an expert storyteller, inserting numerous fascinating insights and quirky facts throughout the book.”
-John R. Taylor, Chairman, CEO and CIO, FX Concepts

“The book reflects the author’s doctorate from the University of Chicago, several years’ experience as an economics professor, and, most recently, a very successful decade as an executive at a huge international bank. These fundamental ingredients are seasoned with bits of wisdom and experience. What results is a very tasty intellectual stew.”
-Professor Jack Clark Francis, PhD, Professor of Economics and Finance, Bernard Baruch College

“In this book, Tim Weithers clearly explains a very complicated subject. Foreign Exchange is full of jargon and conventions that make it very hard for non-professionals to gain a good understanding. Weither’s book is a must for any student or professional who wants to learn the secrets of FX.”
-Niels O. Nygaard, Director of Financial Mathematics, The University of Chicago

“An excellent text for students and practitioners who want to become acquainted with the arcane world of the foreign exchange market.”
-David DeRosa, PhD, founder, DeRosa Research and Trading, Inc., and Adjunct Professor of Finance, Yale School of Management

“Tim Weithers provides a superb introduction to the arcana of foreign exchange markets. While primarily intended for practitioners, the book would be a valuable introduction for students with some knowledge of economics. The text is exceptionally clear with numeric examples and exercises that reinforce concepts. Frequent references are made to the economic theory behind the trading practices.”
-John F. O’Connell, Professor of Economics, College of the Holy CrossPraise for Foreign Exchange

Currency Competition and Foreign Exchange Markets: The Dollar, the Yen and the Euro

Currency Competition and Foreign Exchange Markets: The Dollar, the Yen and the Euro

Currency Competition and Foreign Exchange Markets is a major new theoretical and empirical study of international currencies that focuses on the role the Euro (the future European currency) will play in the international monetary and financial system, along with the US dollar and the Japanese yen. In contrast to much of the existing literature that approaches the subject from a macroeconomic perspective, Philipp Hartmann develops a theoretical model that uses game theory, time series and panel econometrics, and links financial markets analysis with transaction cost economics. The results are presented with reference to political, historical and institutional considerations, and provide accessible answers to policy makers, business people and scholars world wide.Currency Competition and Foreign Exchange Markets is a major new theoretical and empirical study of international currencies that focuses on the role the Euro (the future European currency) will play in the international monetary and financial system, along with the US dollar and the Japanese yen. Trading the Bond & Futures Markets

Trading the Bond & Futures Markets

This E-Book started with my note taking and statistic gathering. I started writing for my own trading analysis and development. It then progressed to a manual and I am continually refining it. I have friends and family who keep asking questions in general. Like most people they expect a simple answer to a seemingly simple question when actually it is quiet complicated. So I started to write things out to show the complexity and this application began. This is written really for my family, and friends. Most have never traded before so it is written to take a beginner to the level of making a living day trading.
The method I will present is as good as any and better than most. It is tested and proven. I will try to discuss trading philosophy, psychology, concepts, tools and their use thoroughly with much discussion and many examples.
I am not a guru or a master of trading. Is this The Holy Grail? You decide!
This application offers over 250 pages of trading philosophy, methodology, psychology and charts.
Entry and exit points, moving averages, chart set up, check list and spread sheets. The six major trades: Swing Trade, Pause Continuation Trade, Counter Trade, Retest Trade, Breakout Trade, and Minor Alert Level Trades. Before taking the trade please read the disclaimer. Best!

Currency Trading: How to Get Started in the Forex Markets

Currency Trading: How to Get Started in the Forex Markets

Forex trading, more commonly known, in its abbreviated form of Forex, is an international market for the exchange or purpose of selling and buying currencies of different countries competing with each other in the monetary arena. The investors ability to sell and buy these different currencies does so in the hopes of making a small profit with each transaction.

It is this that attracts investors and many become Forex traders. Trading in the this market is open from Monday 0:00 GMT and closes Friday 10:00 GMT and traders are not limited to NASDAQ or The New York Stock Exchange time frame. Actually the Foreign Exchange Market liquid and very attractive to investors who can make trades ranging up to two trillion dollars on a daily bases. Such huge amounts in the trading arena make it almost impossible for an individual trader to make a noticeable impact.

Forex trading is the selling and buying of one country’s currency for another country’s. The strength or weakness of that currency, the ups and downs of it’s value to that of another country. For example, an investment against the British pound, of three thousand American dollars (00.00) at 1.7999 and a margin of one percent predicting the rise of the exchange rate.

If this happened you would close the rate of exchange at 1.8050 you would clear around one thousand two hundred dollars (00.00). This would afford you a forty percent profit on your investment. No wonder there are so many Forex investors, but it still takes planning and knowledge of the currency arena to be successful.

Investors are provided with an a tremendous opportunity to trade and earn an enormous profit and losses if they try without a thoroughly thought out sensible short term trading plan. Foreign exchange trading is not like the stock exchange which holds positions for a much longer span of time. While Forex traders are numerous, they hold on to these positions for intervals of shorter durations of time.

Forex trading in marginal accounts are very desirable and they allow traders to amass larger positions without the necessity of large deposits. You can find marginal accounts many situations with five percent of the required funds. For example five thousand dollars (00.00) would get a position of one million dollars (,000,000.00).

To trade successfully and enable you to maximize your profits you need to prepare and implement a few methods of trading and be consistent and stick with them. There are a couple of methods practiced in making a decision on which trades to take advantage of are: technical analysis and fundamental analysis.

The most analysis used is the technical. It applies the premise shifts come about in the Forex exchange are true and occur for a reason. The consensus being whenever a particular currency is traded towards a high it will maintain that trend. The opposite, as a rule, also holds true. Opinions of the technical Forex don’t draw out predictions of long-term on the market, merely attempt to capitalize on the experiences of the past.

The fundamental analysis examines all the aspects, factors and trading currency of countries involved. Such as the rate of interest, economics, rate of unemployment all taken into consideration. For example, interest rates rising suddenly can compel Forex traders to open a position which is supported by data at that time. It might also cause him to remove an active position as a means to prevent monetary loss.

Trading and Investing in the Forex Markets Using Chart Techniques

Trading and Investing in the Forex Markets Using Chart Techniques

The financial markets are made up of people from very diverse backgrounds but whether by long or short term investment these market participants all have a desire to win by varying degrees.  Many market participants, especially short term traders are often too interested in the release of some fundamental statement or some rumor or the latest bank recommendations than in the trading price of the asset which leads them to trade and fail because of emotions based trading.  The daily price movements, the patterns, the volatility that appear on charts, are for whatever reason, the results of the actions of the crowd.  To avoid making decisions based on heightened emotions, it is necessary to create your own plan based on your own analysis.

This book has been developed to demonstrate how a few relatively straight forward techniques can create a plan that does not rely on outside investment recommendations and therefore takes the emotions out of trading. The book demonstrates how to interpret the market price action in the shape of forms or patterns and Japanese candlesticks to help you:

  • Find markets that are changing from bullish to bearish and from bearish to bullish
  • Locate entry and exit points
  • Monitor the position for signs of change.

The book provides a series of charting techniques involving the use of candlesticks as graphical representations of market price actions in the Foreign Exchange markets. It presents methods of chart technical analysis for medium to long-term investing, in a market where despite strong returns when compared with other asset types, it is difficult to realize a profitable return.

The title does not dwell on already-known ‘signals’ represented by candlestick formations, but concentrates instead on how to confirm these signals by applying a variety of confirmation techniques which form a step-by-step process through the chapters of the book to finish by ‘Putting It All Together’.

Forecasting and Hedging in the Foreign Exchange Markets (Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems)

Forecasting and Hedging in the Foreign Exchange Markets (Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems)

The growing complexity of many real world problems is one of the biggest challenges of our time. The area of international finance is one prominent example where decision making is often fraud to mistakes, and tasks such as forecasting, trading and hedging exchange rates seem to be too difficult to expect correct or at least adequate decisions. From the high complexity of the foreign exchange market and related decision problems, the author derives the necessity to use tools from Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, e.g. Support Vector Machines, and to combine such methods with sophisticated financial modelling techniques. The suitability of this combination of ideas is demonstrated by an empirical study and by simulation.
